Muscat: An Oman team is all set to represent the Sultanate this weekend at the Mind Gamers World Final in Budapest, Hungary.
The top national team battled it out during the Red Bull Mind Gamers 2017 local qualifier.
Fallah Hassan AlSiyabi, 22, Abdallah Ahmed Sulaiman Al-Waaili, 25, and Mujtaba Qambar Awahd, 29, will now go on to battle it out in the first-ever Escape Room World Championship in March 2017.
More than 9,000 players took part in the qualifiers spanning 75 events, and 22 national champion teams of four persons each have emerged to take on a never-before-seen escape room designed by the best minds in the field.
Wildcard spots still remain, and everyone, everywhere, can watch what happens when the World Finals are streamed live on March 25, 2017, exclusively on Red Bull TV.
Players first needed to prove their skills through a single-player online game in order to qualify for one of more than 40 local events hosted worldwide. The top players then proceeded through to the Oman qualifier and were invited to recruit a team of up to three additional players to compete at the real-life event held at Professional Gaming in Al Khoud and Middle East College – Multimedia Studio.
‘Mission Unlock Enoch’, was created by Playful Solutions and inspired by ‘Mind Gamers’ the movie by Terra Mater and by an Escape Room Game Jam hosted at MIT Game Lab. Mission Unlock Enoch evolves from a global online single-player game, through multi-player real-world qualification events to a final Escape Room world tournament.
The final Escape Room will be created by Scott Nicholson, Associate Professor from the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University and director of the Because Play Matters game lab.
The four best players of a global online high-score list also win a “Wildcard“ for the Mission Unlock Enoch World Finals and get invited to compete against the best mind gamers from all participating nations. This year’s edition, includes participants from Austria, Azerbaijan, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Oman, Norway, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA.
A growing trend, escape rooms are physical adventure games in which players are locked in a room and have to use its elements to solve a series of puzzles and escape. The Mission Unlock Enoch develops this concept into a global competitive and collaborative format contest.
