Academic symposium on Omani currency & coins to be organised

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth will organise an academic symposium on Wednesday on readings about currency and coins in Omani civilization.

The Ministry will be represented by the Literary Forum at the symposium, which will be held the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat.

The symposium aims to highlight the role of currencies and numismatics throughout Oman’s rich historical civilization. It will feature presentations by professors and specialists.

The programme of the symposium will include a number of working papers: A paper on Qarmatian coins minted in Oman (354–362 AH / 965–983 AD)—to be presented by Dr. Ibrahim bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Fadhli; A paper on the transition from metal coinage to paper currency in the Sultanate of Oman (1893–1974)—to be presented by Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Kharusi; And an overview of archaeological coin hoards in Oman.

The symposium will be run by Zakia bint Saif Al Maamari.
