Increase in Covid-19 cases does not signify second wave in Oman: Expert

Muscat: An increase in the number of new coronavirus cases does not indicate a second wave of the virus, experts have said adding that it was just an indicator of more people being infected.

Dr. Khalid Al Balushi, Assistant Director at the Covid-19 field hospital, said in an interview to Oman TV, "The current trend is an increase in the number of people infected with the virus and not a new wave. The establishment of the field hospital has reduced the burden on other hospitals, leaving them free to provide services to other patients." The bed occupancy rate at the field hospital is between 17 and 18 per cent at the moment.

Al Balushi added: "The field hospital does not receive cases directly, but rather those transferred from other health institutions, according to certain procedures."
