
Muscat: More than 6,000 Omani citizens have been appointed as teachers between 2015 and 2020, the Minister of Education said in the eighth periodic meeting for the second annual session (2020-2021) from the ninth period (2019-2023) of the Shura Council.
Her Excellency Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibania, Minister of Education said in a statement to the council, “ 6,877 Omanis appointed in the position of a teacher during the period from 2015-2020. The number of Omani teachers who occupy faculty positions in the current year 2020/2021 reached 48,173, an estimated rate of 84.8 per cent of the total number. 8,644 non-Omani teachers are currently appointed, at 15.2 per cent of the total number. In some specialisations, Omanisation is at 100 per cent .
The Minister of Education also confirmed, "2,143 Omani graduates of the educational qualification program were appointed as a teacher during the period from 2016-2020 and more than 726 were accepted into the program in the academic year 2020/2021 and the plan is to accept more than 700 others in the 2021/2022 academic year.”
"There will be a need for a number of jobs in the tenth five-year plan, around 2,800 new jobs, to cover the needs of the new schools that will be operating in the years of this tenth plan, which are estimated at about 196, as well as to compensate those who resigned from the existing schools."
