Over 100,000 turtles returned to sea in Oman

Muscat: More than 100,000 turtles were returned to the sea within a week of the campaign to bring back young green turtles in the Ras Al Jinz and Ras Al Hadd turtle reserve.

The campaign is being implemented by the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve in cooperation with the Environment Authority and Local residents.

Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve said: "Within ten days, the number of turtles that were returned exceeded 100,000 turtles, and this number is considered large for the first week of the ongoing campaign until the end of December.

The campaign is held annually during the hatching period, which extends from the middle of September to the end of December

"It aims to involve the local community in protecting the marine environment, preserving its natural resources, protecting young turtles and returning them to the sea," Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve added.

Turtles are an important factor in the balance of marine diversity, and turtles are a cultural treasure for the Omani environment, a source of attraction for tourists and lovers of the marine environment, and it promotes cooperation in the field of scientific research and studies.
