Six cruise ships bring 11,000 tourists to Oman in one week

Muscat: Oman welcomed six cruise ships carrying 11,000 tourists last week, with more than three thousand arriving in one day alone.
The Marella Discovery arrived at Sultan Qaboos Port on Thursday as the sector of cruise ships in Oman completed the transfer of 1,600 tourist who were transiting between Sultan Qaboos Port and Muscat International Airport.
Khasab port also welcomed the MSC Magnifica on Thursday which carried 2,222 tourists on board.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the passengers were welcomed by employees from the Directorate of Tourism in Musandam who “introduced them to nearby tourist attractions and directed them towards companies which provide tourist packages.”
The Ministry went on to say that tourism companies and related services like transport and hospitality would be granted leave to operate between Sultan Qaboos Port and Muscat International Airport so that they could create special tours and programmes for cruise visitors and benefit from the increased tourism.
The Ministry added, “We are cooperating with the Royal Oman Police and Marafi, as well as the Oman Airports Management Company in order to ensure the success of the transit of the passengers from the Marella Discovery via Muscat International Airport,” noting that the movement of passengers will happen over 2 days.
