State Council session gets underway today

Muscat: In response to the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the State Council will commence today the fourth annual sitting of the sixth term.
Dr. Khalid bin Salim Al Saeedi, Secretary General of the State Council hailed the interest shown by His Majesty for the Shura march in the Sultanate which moves with steady strides to contribute to the progress of the Sultanate in parallel with the comprehensive development efforts within the framework of the state of institutions and law at which the Council of Oman (which comprises the State Council and Majlis Al Shura) is one of its main components.
He pointed out that the 1st session of the fourth annual sitting of the sixth term includes discussing the proposal which the Education and Research Committee intends to study about “Developing the Regulation for Training Private Institutions’ and discussing the proposal to set up two committees to study “Enhancing Benefit from the Human Capital in the Public Sector” and the proposal to make a study on issuing a law for Regularising the Use of Bio Technology and its Products for Protecting the Genetic Data in the Sultanate’.
The Secretary General of the State Council said that the State Council will look into a number of incoming reports and letters from some public organisations. It will also approve the minutes of the 10th to the 14th meetings of the third annual sitting of the sixth term. He noted that the State Council will hold a joint session with Majlis Al Shura on Tuesday November 13 to study the article of difference between the two Councils on the draft tax law on selective goods.
He added that the 4th annual sitting of the sixth term of the State Council coincides with the 48th Glorious National Day anniversary. The State Council will endeavour in the coming stage to continue work to enhance its contribution to the national work by practicing its powers and prerogatives while looking forward for more achievements and activities in the coming stage. It is also looking forward to enhance its performance and build upon the achievements made in the past three sittings of the sixth term which witnessed discussing and approving a number of draft laws, studies and reports that enhance the victorious Renaissance taking place in all fields.
The Secretary General of the State Council commended the efforts made by honourable members of the Council to carry out their obligations and achieve the prospective aims. He noted that besides practicing its powers and prerogatives, the State Council has implemented a number of activities that aim at enhancing communication with society and promoting the Shura culture among all segments of society.
