State Council set to discuss commodity law draft

Muscat: The State Council will discuss a draft law and four proposals during its next three sessions scheduled from July 2 to 4.
The 12th to 14th Regular Sessions of the third year of the sixth period will be chaired by Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the Council, in the presence of the honourable Council members and the Secretary-General of the Council.
The 12th Session on July 2 will feature a discussion of the draft “Selective Commodity Tax Law” sent by the Council of Ministers, along with the report of the Economic Committee of the State Council and a report from the Majlis Al Shura.
The State Council will discuss a proposal from the Education and Research Committee entitled “Enhancing the role of education in supporting the knowledge economy”, as well as another proposal the Committee wants to study, entitled “the development of the system of training at the top of education”, during the 13th Regular Session.
It will also discuss the formation of a special panel to study a proposal entitled, “Language policy in the Sultanate and its realities and challenges and mechanisms to develop and activate.”
It will use the 14th Regular Session on July 4 to discuss a proposal submitted by the Economic Committee on the proposal to amend the “Economic Development Law issued by Royal Decree No. (9/75).”
The Council will also go over a proposal submitted by the Economic Committee entitled “the possibilities of enhancing the independence of the national economy”.
