Businesses in Oman fined OMR2,500 for violating consumer protection law

Muscat: A number of businesses were fined a total of OMR2,500 by Oman's consumer watchdog for selling expired goods and for failing to display the details of their products in Arabic.
According to the Public Authority for Consumer Protection’s (PACP) online statement, “The Consumer Protection Department recently imposed administrative fines amounting to OMR2,500 on a number of commercial establishments for violating the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. 66/2014."
PACP officials also announced that the businesses were fined during one of their price control inspection campaigns. The statement read, “Fines were administered as part of a field inspection campaign conducted by inspectors to control prices and follow up on goods and services offered to consumers. It was discovered that the shops in question were selling goods that did not contain details in Arabic in addition to selling expired goods, which were not suitable for human use."
