Discussion on society engagement, media handling

Muscat: Society engagement and media handling of the issues and decisions of governmental organisations that touch the citizen were discussed at the 5th regular meeting of the Governmental Communication Centre on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Al Fadhl bin Mohammed Al Harthy, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers and Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour Al Hasani, Minister of Information.
The meeting also reviewed how to convey the message in a clear and transparent manner for the public. The meeting presented two case studies, the first of which by Sulaiman Al Rahbi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning on the application of society engagement in decision making process.
He reviewed ‘Tanfeedh’ programme experience which engaged representatives of all stakeholders.
He also reviewed the experience of the Supreme Council for Planning represented by Oman Vision 2040 in ensuring social engagement in drafting Oman Vision, in response to the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to engage the different categories of society in preparing Oman Vision.
Salim bin Naseer Al Hadhrami, Director- General of Planning and Development at the Ministry of Manpower reviewed the Ministry’s experience in providing platform for the open data. The platform avails data on the internet to increase transparency level at the Ministry and enhance society and decision makers’ awareness of such data. The platform also contributes to rationalising public expenditure through knowledge-based innovation.
