Muscat: More than OMR74,000 was recovered and returned to consumers in the first half of 2017 in the North Sharqiya region of Ibra, according to a statement by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).
“The Department of Consumer Protection in the province of North Sharqiya was able to recover OMR74,029 for a number of consumers during the first half of this year 2017 as part of the efforts to solve complaints submitted by consumers,” the PACP said.
According to the 2017 semi-annual report, there were 190 complaints received in which 184 were resolved in “friendly manner”, six of the complaints were resolved through public prosecution and a total amount of OMR74,029 was recovered.
The report stated that 46 complaints totaling to OMR66,795 were from automobile dealerships, followed by the electronic devices with 32 complaints totaling OMR1,682 and 27 complaints were towards the steel, metal and carpentry industries in which OMR2,034 were recovered.
“These efforts are in place to preserve the rights of the consumers and to be able to return their rights to them in whichever way necessary. The PACP can resolve their complaints in a civil friendly manner or through the judiciary branch, which will be through the appropriate procedures based on the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014,” PACP said.
