Muscat: The cultivated land area in the Sultanate has grown by over 6 per cent, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) announced on the occasion of Omani Tree Day.
In a statement online, NCSI said, “About 240 thousand acres is the total cultivated area in the #Sultanate in 2017, an increase of 6.6 per cent, compared to the previous year. #Stat_Oman #OmaniTreeDay.”
Date orchards account for a significant part of the cultivation. NCSI also noted that Oman had seen a marginal increase in the amount of dates harvested.
NCSI revealed that there had been a 1.6 per cent increase in the amount of dates produced, adding that about 360,785 thousand tonnes of dates had been cultivated in Oman in 2017, compared to 2016.
