Muscat: Marwan Al Khanjari claimed the boys under-12 singles title at the ISC Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club.
In the all-Omani final, the No. 3 seed Marwan who had upset top seed Vatsal Manikandan in the semifinal, registered a thumping 6-0, 6-1 victory to upset the No. 2 seed Issa Al Suleimani to lift the boys under-12 title.
Marwan went out all guns blazing and and displayed a high degree of consistency in his game. Issa too played delightful ground strokes but Marwan had more in his armoury and made very few errors.
Top seed Younis Al Rawahi advanced to the semifinals of the boys under-18 singles after comfortably dispatching Shlok Ail 8-1 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Younis is scheduled to take on Amaan Kazi who upset fourth seed Yash Tanna 8-5 in the quarter-final. In a power-packed quarter final tie, Yash broke Amaan in the third game and held for a 3-1 lead. Amaan rallied to 3-all. They exchanged breaks as Amaan played more purposefully and raced to 7-4. Yash held his next serve to stay in the match but Amaan made no mistakes and served out for a place in the last four.
In another quarterfinal match of the same event, second seed Subash Pillai had trouble with his serve but made up for it with brilliant ground-strokes to overcome Ayaan Malhotra 8-5. Third seed Zakariya Al Suleimani emerged into the last four after defeating Hassan Haider 8-3.
Rafaella Saa qualified for the final of the girls under-18 singles after scoring a comprehensive 6-0, 5=0 victory over Madhu Mithra in the semi final. In the final, Rafaella will take on Omani player Aisha Al Suleimani who scored a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 victory over Sanjana Girish in the other semifinal.
