Muscat: Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs received yesterday Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League.
The two leaders discussed Arab issues, particularly situations in Libya, Iraq, Syria and Yemen, as well as matters related to the Arab League's meeting scheduled in Amman on March 29, 2017.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Aboul Gheit hailed the progress being witnessed by the Sultanate during the prosperous reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, as well as the Sultanate's efforts to promote peace in the region and the whole world.
He said that his visit to the Sultanate comes as part of a series of visits to the Arab League's member states. He added that he listened to several viewpoints on various issues of concern to the Arab region.
He praised the Sultanate's vision that seeks to unite the Arab world and provide a framework for an acceptable settlement to all disputes. He affirmed the Sultanate's participation in the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers and their European counterparts scheduled in Cairo on December 20.
Aboul Gheit also stressed the importance of the Sultanate's contribution in all economic, social and cultural activities being carried out by the Arab League. He added that the Arab League observes the effective participation of Omani delegations in meetings.
