Muscat: Here is what is happening across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

A traditional shooting competition held in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate

The Omani Committee for Shooting with Traditional Weapons organised a traditional shooting competition in its eighth edition for the categories of juniors, girls and general women, at Ezz Shooting Range in the Wilayat of Manah in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

The competition included shooting with the saktoun weapon at a distance of 50 metres and dropping dishes at a distance of 50 metres, with the participation of 200 male and female shooters from different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Sports for Youth for Sports and Youth, the sponsor of the occasion, said: "We have seen a development in this competition from the organising committee and the participants after the participation of 200 participants of different ages and from different governorates. This indicates the desire of Omanis and youth to practice this sport, adding that the launch from the base and attention to this category will pay off in the future.

Colonel Salem bin Mubarak Al-Abrauy, head of the Omani Committee for Shooting with Conventional Weapons, said in his speech: One of the objectives of holding this tournament for these categories is to select those who can be prepared to participate in the national shooting teams and teams that can represent Oman in international and regional forums and competitions. Since its formation, the committee has led to the establishment of many of these activities and programmes to achieve these goals and objectives, and among the most important of these activities is the establishment of seven annual tournaments, five of which are for the general public and two for the general women and junior category.

The results of the competition came in two stages, first the Saktoun competition: the junior category Mohammed bin Said Al-Badi won the first place, Said bin Bashir Al-Olayani came second, and Al-Mahdi bin Saif Al-Shukaili came third.

In the young women category: Al-Anoud bint Hammoud Al-Harsousiya won the first place, Shahd bint Awad Al-Ka’abiya came second, and Shaima bint Khamis Al-Muqbaliya came third. As for the All-Women category, Aisha bint Khamis Al-Muqbaliya came first, Afra bint Khamis Al-Muqbaliya took second place, and Aisha bint Saif Al-Diriyah in third place.

In the second stage of the disk-dropping competition, the Musayyib Union team won first place.

At the conclusion of the competition, His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, the sponsor of the occasion, distributed prizes to the winners of the first places in the competition.

First edition of Al Dhahirah International Film Festival concluded

The first edition of Al Dhahirah International Film Festival concluded under the patronage of His Excellency Najib bin Ali Al Rawas, Governor of Al Dahra.

The festival, which was organised by the Omani Society for Cinema and Theatre from October 23 to 26, included 175 local, Arab and international participation in the field of cinema and filmmaking.

The Al Dhahirah International Film Festival is the first of its kind at the level of Al Dhahirah Governorate, in an effort by the organisers to be its starting point in the field of film and cinematography.

Awad bin Marhoon Al Ghafri, head of the artistic committee at the festival, indicated that the festival had enjoyed wide participation by directors, artists and artistic producers from various Gulf, Arab and foreign countries such as the UAE, Kuwait, Syria and Lebanon, in addition to participations from India, Italy and France.

The festival's programmes included workshops on cinematic make-up and the foundations of making animation films, in addition to art and heritage exhibitions and tours in the various wilayats of Al Dhahirah Governorate for the festival's guests.

In the end, the sponsor of the ceremony honoured the winning films in the categories of feature films, animation films and promotion films participating in the festival's competitions.

Youth Leadership camp held in Al Dhahirah Governorate

The Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Dhahirah Governorate organised a Youth Leadership camp for the governorate’s youth to celebrate the Omani Youth Day, which falls on October 26 of each year.

His Excellency Najeeb bin Ali Al Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah, during his sponsorship of the launch of the Youth Leadership Development Camp, stressed Oman’s interest in the youth category, and its quest to enhance the areas of youth development.

The activities of the Youth Leadership Camp kicked off with a 10-kilometre walk for young groups in the governorate, followed by several events, training seminars and educational games, in addition to a workshop on developing youth talent and skills to face future challenges, and another on team leadership.

The camp activities also included a session to review the experiences and successful young leaders, and discussion sessions on the youth’s vision and future aspirations, in addition to a workshop on strategic planning.

Dhofar Governorate celebrates Omani Youth Day

The Directorate General of Culture, Sports and Youth in the Governorate of Dhofar organised at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah as a celebration of the Omani Youth Day, which falls on the 26th of October each year.

The celebration included a visual presentation of the speech of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, on the occasion of the Omani Youth Day, in addition to lectures, youth dialogue sessions and various sports events.

The celebration included a display of a number of achievements by a group of young creators, an open sports day for volleyball, swimming, bowling, handball and snooker, and an educational lecture on the role of youth in talent development.
