MUSCAT: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday at the office of His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Honourary chairman of the Association for the Welfare of Children with Disabilities between the Association and Al Habib & Co. by which the latter will fund the construction of a rehabilitation centre in the Wilayat of Al Mesana'ah for children with disabilities.
He said that this voluntary work reflects the active role played by the private sector in the social development projects and providing children with disabilities with suitable environment for development.
On his part, Ali bin Mallalah Al Lawati, Chairman of Al Habib said that the construction of this centre comes within the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy.
Redha bin Hassan Sulaiman, chairman of the Association for the Welfare of Children with Disabilities said that the proposed centre will meet the needs of children between 6 and 13 years old and who suffer from mild to moderate mental retardation, audio, physical or double disability. It will also meet the needs of some children suffering from autism.
He added that the new centre, which will be completed in 15 months , will include six classrooms, each to accommodate 15 students, four rooms for physiotherapy, life skill training , family guidance and mess halls, in addition to computer lab , prayer areas , covered outer areas for events and a storeroom. — ONA
