Muscat: In 2020, OMR 24 million was collected by Public Prosecution, most of it in fines and confiscated currency, in addition to public right fines, Dr. Ahmed Al Shukaili, the Assistant Prosecutor said. His Excellency Nasr bin Khamis Al-Sawai, the Public Prosecutor, said 117 services are provided by the Public Prosecution, and that integration with government institutions has reached an advanced stage, as the rate of receiving cases electronically reached 87 per cent with 20,727 out of 23,000 cases submitted electronically.
The Public Prosecutor confirmed that the installation of an electronic complaints platform has proven 100 per cent effective and added that a "Rassd" team was established to follow up on what journalists and social media have recorded at the regional and global levels when a crime occurs, with the aim of following up and analysing it to see the empowerment and readiness of the legislative system in the Sultanate.
The public prosecutor indicated that the number of crimes decreased by nearly 50 per cent due to the awareness in victims and the increase in the level of public understanding and legal knowledge, and the decrease in consumer protection crimes by 18 per cent was due to the awareness of the service provider customer.
“Nine murder cases out of a total of 23 thousand cases are considered low worldwide, but in our society even one murder case is considered unacceptable.”
