Supreme Committee takes several measures as COVID-19 cases rise

Muscat: The Supreme Committee has lifted the ban on the movement of individuals and vehicles between 8 pm till 5 am from April 8 till the first day of Ramadan, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported on Monday.

In a statement issued, ONA said: ”The Supreme Committee has decided to extend the closure of all commercial activities while the committee has allowed the movement of individuals and vehicles in all governorates from 8 pm to 5 am from April 8, 2021, till first of Ramadan.”

However, the committee also decided to “close all commercial activities and impose a ban on movement of individuals and vehicles from 9 pm to 4 am throughout the holy month of Ramadan.”

The committee also banned Taraweeh prayers in mosques. The statement from ONA also said there will be a total ban on all gatherings, assembling like “iftar sa'im in mosques and other places like tents or public assembling areas like Majlis or anything else.”

The committee also banned group activities, social, sports, cultural, or any other collective activities during Ramadan. The committee also said entry to the Sultanate will be “restricted only to Omani citizens and residency holders with effect from 12 pm of Thursday 8 April 2021.”
