People escaping quarantine by handing over tracking bracelets to elderly family members
Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Health has come across cases of people removing their mandatory COVID tracking bracelets and putting them on old people who normally stay at home, so that they can leave the house freely and move about without incurring penalties.
“We have received messages of some people taking off their tracking bracelet after arriving at the country’s border crossings, and putting them on elderly people who do not usually leave the home,” said Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, the Minister of Health.
Under Oman’s current COVID prevention measures, those who enter the country are subject to quarantine for a minimum of seven days. During this time, they are required to continuously wear their tracking bracelet, to ensure they do not break quarantine protocols, and so that their whereabouts can be monitored.
People found breaking quarantine regulations are subject to a fine of OMR 1,000.
