Muscat: Keeping up the traditions of Indian hockey alive, a small function was organised on January 26 while maintaining COVID-19 protocols to mark the occasion.
The Councillor of Indian embassy, P.K. Prakash, visited the SAS Naqvi - Sports, Olympic and Hockey museum to commemorate the Republic Day of India.
P K. Prakash graced the occasion on the Republic Day and was felicitated in the presence of Osama Rawat.
Under the patronage of Embassy of India in coordination with Oman Hockey Association, the Friends of Naqvi Group and Team Coorg Muscat have been organising the events.
The Republic Day of India hockey festival, the Independence Day hockey of India festival and the Dhyan Chand day national sports day of India for the past 15 years. These events were always supported by the business and sports top personalities in Oman which are held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in cooperation with Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the director of Sports Complex.
It all started in 2005 when former ambassador Ashok Attari had invited Air India hockey team to establish Indo-Oman sports friendship relation.
It continued under Anil Wadhwa, J S. Mukul, Indramani Pandey and current ambassador Munu Mahawar.
However, the spread of COVID-19 had an adverse impact on the events and all of them were cancelled in 2020.
The Indian ambassador had also visited the sports museum most on October 20, 2020.
Dr Shiekh Hammad Hamed Al Ghafri, member of the State Council had received the Indian envoy and felicitated him.
