99 Indonesian workers return home under amnesty scheme

Muscat: Between December 9 and 13, 2020, 99 Indonesian workers went back to Indonesia under the amnesty programme.

Of all the participants, 83 went on free airplane tickets provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The amnesty repatriation process was facilitated by Indonesian Embassy working closely with Omani authorities as well as the Indonesian government.

Indonesian Ambassador, Mohamad Irzan Djohan expressed his sincere appreciation towards all the relevant authorities for their cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy.

“On behalf of Indonesian Embassy and Indonesian Government, I would like to express my utmost appreciation towards Omani government and authorities for their cooperation, especially the Ministry of Labour, immigration authorities, and Royal Oman Police. It is only with our good partnership that this amnesty programme can be carried out smoothly.”

Relieved that she can finally go home, one of the Indonesian workers also expressed her gratitude, “Alhamdulillah, finally I can go home to my family whom I have missed so much. I thank Indonesian Embassy that has helped me go through all the process.”

In the send-off ceremony, Ambassador Irzan advised the Indonesian workers to continue their life with optimism and hard work, and wished them success for their future endeavours.

After arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airports (SHIA), they continued their trip to their respective hometown, such as West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and Central Java. Joining them in the first batch was Indonesian Embassy’s official for Consular Affairs, Hari Yulianto (First Secretary).

Until the end of December 2020, Indonesian Embassy will continue facilitating Indonesian workers who apply for the amnesty programme. It is estimated that there will be at least 50-100 more of Indonesian workers who will register themselves and plan their departure. However, those participants will have to buy the airplane tickets on their own.
