Twice the number of Omanis died from COVID-19 compared to expats

Muscat: Twice the number of Omanis have died from COVID-19 in the country as compared to expatriates.
According to data from the Ministry of Health’s coronavirus monitoring app, Tarassud, 562 people have passed away from the disease. Of them, 376 are Omanis, and other 186 are foreigners.
Statistics also show that the majority of those who have died due to the virus are above the age of 60 (318 people). The remaining 244 are aged between 15 and 59.
Ministry of Health figures also show that three-fourths of the people (430) who have died from COVID-19 are men. 142 women have lost their lives due to infection from the disease.
Statistics reveal that 230 of those who died lived in Muscat Governorate. Another 131 passed away in North Al Batinah, while South Batinah reported an additional 82 casualties from the disease. In South Al Sharqiyah, 38 people have passed away from COVID-19.
29 people died from COVID-19 in Al Dahkiliyah, whereas in the southern Dhofar region, 19 people have reportedly lost their lives. 12 inhabitants died in North Sharqiyah, and another six deaths have been reported in the Dhahirah region.
Three people have died in Al Wusta, and 12 have died in the Governorate of Buraimi. No deaths have so far been reported in the northern Governorate of Musandam.
