Water and electricity repair services to be available during lockdown

Muscat: People in Oman who need to get their electricity and water connections repaired during the ongoing lockdown can still call for service teams to provide them assistance.
During the lockdown, which will run every day from 7pm to 6am, water and electricity maintenance and supply vehicles are allowed to travel on the roads because of the vital services they provide.
The Public Authority for Water (Diam) will continue to respond to emergency services relating to water supply that include water leaks, burst pipes, and water shortages, among others.
“File a report through the eDiam app or call 1442,” said the Government Communications Centre (GC), explaining how people could request services from Diam at present. “Your report will be handled according to the procedures followed.”
A similar process has been set up for those who require their electricity connections to be looked at. 24 hour hotlines have been set up by Oman’s five electricity distribution companies, depending on where they operate.
Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), operates in the capital region, and can be reached on 80070008, while Mazoon Electricity Company is solely responsible for the electric gird in the North and South Sharqiyah governorates, South Al Batinah Governorate, and jointly provides electricity services in the Dakhiliyah Governorate, with Tanweer, the Rural Areas Electricity Company.
Mazoon can be contacted on 80077771, while Tanweer, which wholly oversees electricity services in the interior of the Dhofar region, the Wusta Governorate, Masirah Island, the northern Governorate of Musandam, and shares electricity distribution in the Dhahirah Governorate with Majan Electricity Company, can be contacted on 80077787.
Majan, in addition to its operations in Dhahirah, must also be contacted for any issues with electricity supply in Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah, on 80078000. Lastly, people living in Salalah and the surrounding areas can call the Dhofar Power Company on 80077700.
“Electricity emergency teams function 24 hours a day,” said the Government Communications Centre. “In the event of an emergency, please contact the toll-free number in your area.”
Although these services will be available to people even after the daily lockdown is in effect, people need to ensure they have enough medicine and food at home, while they should make sure they order gas cylinders for their kitchen in advance, should they feel they are about to run out.
Shops that provide all of these services will not be open after the lockdown, and will be closed well before 7pm, so that the employees working in these establishments can return home before the restrictions come into effect.
