Muscat: Heavy rain and thundershowers are expected to hit parts of the Sultanate from Friday evening till Sunday evening, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) announced in its latest bulletin. The rainfall will hit its peak on Saturday, PACA said.
According to the bulletin, the governorates of Muscat, South AL Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi will witness rainfall of between 40 and 100 mm in a 24-hour period. There will be fresh and strong winds and the possibility of flash floods with a reduction in horizontal visibility during this period. Water levels in low lying areas are also expected to rise.
"Sea conditions are expected to be rough (4-5 metres) and inundation of coastal areas with sea water is expected due to high tides," the bulletin said.
PACA advised the public to take precautions and to stay away from low lying areas, avoiding crossing wadis and avoid venturing into the sea.
