Muscat: The surge in COVID-19 cases among Omanis has been due to lack of precautionary measures taken by them to prevent the spread of infection.
Dr. Mohammad bin Saif Al Hosni, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, said to Shabiba FM, “The COVID-19 infection is not an inevitable thing, we can avoid this disease by taking precautionary measures. The infection has increased among Omanis as they failed to take precautionary steps.”
Approximately 4,000 COVID-19 tests are being carried out every day and it takes several days to get the results, Al Hosni said.
Dr. Mohammad bin Saif Al Hosni added, "Anyone having symptoms such as coughing, sneezing or breathing problems must isolate themselves and continue until the COVID-19 test results confirm that they are not infected.”
“The current COVID-19 tests are better than the ones in the past. We are doing approximately 4,000 tests every day,” Al Hosni added.
"The COVID-19 virus is not as infectious as measles or other viruses. So, we can avoid getting infected by taking precautions and following the health and safety instructions. Masks should be worn if anyone visits your home,” he added.
"Be patient and avoid visiting, gathering, or mingling during Eid holidays, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs said.
"We have witnessed a big jump in numbers after Eid Al-Fitr due to gathering. I request everyone to learn a lesson from the past and to be patient, avoid gatherings during holidays. If the visit is necessary, the individual must stick to the social distancing and wear masks," he added.
"Everyone should be careful and must avoid getting infected because one doesn't know how much one's body is immune to the disease and how the complications arising out of the infection may affect them," he explained.
The Supreme Committee will study procedures and analyse data, and may also issue new decisions for the Eid period.
