Muscat: Fourteen Omani students have been awarded international scholarships to attend leading universities in the USA, UK, Netherlands, Canada and Japan.
The announcement was made by the Takatuf Scholars Programme during a ceremony honouring 57 students. The recognition ceremony, which was under the patronage of Dr. Muna Al Jardani, Undersecretary of Ministry of Manpower for Technical Educational and Vocational Training, honoured 57 students who completed the enrichment programme conducted by Takatuf.
These students have been equipped with the skills needed in today’s modern society which will help them be successful in their future endeavours, said.
Professor Kathryn Bindon, Director of the Takatuf Scholar Programme. “There aren’t many opportunities created for the very bright, highly motivated students,” noted Bindon.
“We proceeded to develop a programme to allow them to learn the most important skills for the twenty first century,” she added.
Bindon noted that their programme allows students to gain tools and learn skills that will support their successes.
“What we do is look at learning tools: skills, abilities, competencies; that students will develop themselves, but will give them an edge as they go on,” said Bindon.
“For international scholars, we obviously push them hard so that they raise their goals and their visions for themselves. In every case, they are excited about the role they will play in the future of Oman,” she added.
Kamal Al Lawati, a Takatuf International Scholar, said he is excited to study abroad, especially in Japan, due to the exposure he will gain in a modern and technologically updated society.
“I’m aspiring to make changes, either in economics or business administration,” said Al Lawati.
“I’d like to return to my home country and adjust things that went wrong here, from an administrative point of view,” he added.
Ibrahim Al Harthi, acting CEO of Takatuf noted, “All of us in Takatuf are very proud of our students’ success. It is very rewarding to see the achievements of our Takatuf Scholars; it proves that we are on the right track to nurture Oman’s future leaders.”
