Muscat: Wilayat of Seeb has now recorded the most number of COVID-19 cases reported in Oman, having surpassed Wilayat Muttrah this week.
According to government data, the number of total coronavirus cases reported in Seeb now stand at 5,677, after 407 more people were reported to be infected by it on Sunday. 244 fresh infections were reported in Muttrah, which took the total there to 5,666.
There have been 4,660 reported cases of the disease in Wilayat Bausher, with these three areas making up the bulk of all reported instances of COVID-19 in Oman. The incidence of reported cases in Amerat (870), Muscat (394) and Quriyat (138) continue to be far less in the capital governorate.
There have been 23,481 reported cases of the coronavirus in the country. Seeb accounts for 24.17 per cent of all reported cases in the country, while Muttrah accounts for a shade less, at 24.13 per cent. Bausher represents 19.8 percent of COVID-19 infections reported.
Outside the capital region, the highest increase in COVID-19 infections was seen in the Governorate of Dhofar, which was recently placed under lockdown to reduce the potential spread of infections there. Dhofar recorded 82 fresh cases, taking the total there to 163.
The occurrence of cases in South Batinah is far higher, which 1,508 cases reported so far – 66 of them were on Sunday. The Dakhiliyah region now has 862 cases, after 45 new incidences of the virus were reported there. 41 more cases have come to light in the Governorate of North Batinah, taking the total there to 1,502.
23 fresh cases of infection were reported in the South Sharqiyah, which means that the total number of people who’ve caught the disease has risen to 507, a number that is a bit more that its northern counterpart: 20 more cases were reported in North Sharqiyah, taking the total there to 324. No new cases have been reported in the central Wusta governorate, which has a total of 759 cases.
17 fresh incidents of COVID-19 were reported in Ad Dhahirah, as the total number of cases reported rose to 199, while in Buraimi, the occurrence of 16 new reported cases means that region has a total of 242 cases. One fresh case was also reported in the northern Governorate of Musandam, which has the least number of cases in the Sultanate at just 10.
