University in Oman produces 10,000 medical masks

Muscat: Sohar University has produced 10,000 medical masks by using an injection molding machine.

A statement issued online by the Ministry of Higher Education said: "The Sohar University team, in cooperation with Okio Company, has produced approximately 10,000 medical masks to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus by using an injection molding machine ."

Professor Ghassan Al-Kindi, assistant director Research and Innovations at Sohar University, said: "The injection molding machine helped to produce large quantities of medical masks and it is possible to produce a mask every three minutes."

"This is unlike a 3D printer which takes between 60 and 90 minutes to produce medical masks," the statement added.
