Suwaiq Port upgraded into full-fledged commercial harbour

Muscat: Suwaiq Port has now increased its cargo throughput capacity to two million metric tons per annum, after it expanded its commercial operation on Sunday, Ministry of Transport has informed

Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport, led a number of dignitaries at the formal opening of Marafi – the extended commercial quay at the port.

In a statement online, the Ministry said: "The expansion works for the commercials berth, which was conducted by Marafi, included an extension to the current berth with a total length of 300m long,40m wide and 5m deep."

"This expansion will triple the handling capabilities and uplift the ports load capacity to 2 million tons annually. In addition, cargo ships of up to 10,000 metric tonnes will be able to dock at Al Suwaiq Port,” the statement added.
