A full month of family fun and cultural experiences came to an end last week on February 9. The 21st Muscat Festival, that began on January 10, 2019, welcomed thousands of people from across Oman and around the Gulf as various activities and events geared to different segments of the society throughout the month.
A number of Arab and foreign countries participated in the festival, which presented programmes and performances at various locations of the festival including Amerat Park, Naseem Garden, Oman Automobile Association and Qurum Amphitheatre.
This year, the organisers brought back a number of popular attractions, including acrobatic performances, daring stunts and most importantly, the Heritage Village that gave people a peek into the life of ancient Omanis and their practices. Also, the Bedouin village, where natives from the Sharqiyah region shared the beauty of their celebrated traditions, attracted hordes of people.
And of course, thrilling rides, traditional dances, live performances – both local and international, magic show and international pavilion were among the highlights at the festival this year.
“I am a bit sad that such an amazing festival only lasts for a month. We definitely want it to happen more often as waiting for a whole year gets difficult,” said Zayana Al Qadhi, who drove all the way from Sohar to attend the closing ceremony.
“This year, I have been to the festival every weekend with my family as this has been the best weekend escape and a quality time to spend with your family and children. The weather has been a cherry on top,” Al Qadhi added.
Moreover, Oman Celebrity Cricket League, that welcomed Bollywood actors, was organised at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Several players from Oman’s national team and residents also joined for a friendly cricket match.
Overall, this year’s event, that was bigger and better than before was a great success and witnessed a large number of visitors who didn’t want it to end so soon. Until next year. — [email protected]
