Last date extended for SAI-Times of Oman Essay, Poster Competition

Muscat: SAI Group, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education (MoE), Oman, is gearing up to unveil the 13th edition of the mega event, ‘SAI - Times of Oman Open Essay Writing and Poster Making Competition 2016’ under the banner ‘Spreading the light through human values’ in which more than 3,000 students from more than 250 schools across Oman are expected to participate.
Inauguration
Phase 1 of the competition will be held at Indian School Ghubra (ISG) on Saturday, April 9, from 10 am to 12 noon for the Omani Government and Private schools–Arabic, bilingual and global, International and Special Education Schools of Muscat Governorate.
Dr. Hamad Saif Musallam Al Busaidy, Director General for Curriculum Development, MoE, has consented to be the Chief Guest and will inaugurate the competition on April 9 at ISG.
The second phase of the event will be held on April 16 at Sohar, Ibri and Nizwa. The last phase will be on April 23 at Sur, Salalah and Buraimi at the Indian schools in these respective places.
Last dates & topics
The last date for registration has been extended up to April 4 for Muscat region, April 11 for regions covered in phase 2 and April 18 for regions covered in phase 3.
The topics, common for both Poster Making and Essay Writing, are: Group A for students of Grades 1 to 3 - 'How to be happy and make others happy'; Group B for Grades 4 to 6 – 'Be a good friend to get a good friend'; Group C for Grades 7 to 9 - 'Value of Time' and Group D for Grades 9 to 12 – 'Effects of Media.'
Participants will be given 90 minutes for Essay Writing and 120 minutes for Poster Making. The approximate word limit is 400 words for the A and B groups and 700 words for the C and D groups.
Schools and participating students are advised to check the website www.saivaluesoman.org for up-to-date information on the event. Once the hall tickets are ready, schools can download and print them for the participants of Phase 1 by logging into the website. Alternatively, they can contact the SAI group for despatch of hall tickets through email. Participants must carry their hall tickets containing the roll number, room number, and also their writing/colour pencils/drawing material.
Only foolscap ruled papers for essay-writing and A3 sheets for poster-making would be provided by the organisers. Students have to fill in the roll number and tick the appropriate topic box and not write their names or school names in the answer papers. Participants are advised not to carry cell phones, iPads and other such gadgets to the competition area.
Reception or Facilitation counters would open from 8.30 am to assist students who fail to bring hall tickets with them. However, participants carrying hall tickets can directly go to the allotted rooms and take their seats latest by 9.30 am, as the event would start at 10.00 am sharp, after it is formally inaugurated.
