Scholarships for Indian students in Oman who wish to study in India

Muscat: Indian students in Oman who are looking forward to pursuing undergraduate courses back home, can now apply for scholarships that are being funded by the Government of India.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has recently offered scholarships to the children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) as well as Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) card holders and workers in Gulf countries, according to the announcement made by the officials from the Embassy of India in Oman.

Officials added that Indian citizens could apply for undergraduate courses in Indian universities and institutes in different fields except medical and related courses. The registration has already opened for the academic year 2019-20 and will end on 30 November, 2019.

“Scholarship amount for payment of tuition fee, admission fee and post-admission services. Financial assistance is up to 75 per cent of the total Institutional Economic subject to a maximum of $4000 per annum,” the MEA said.

“The Government of India offers scholarships to the children of PIOs, NRIs and OCI card holders and workers in Gulf countries, to purse undergraduate courses in Indian universities and institutes in different fields, except medical and related courses, both professional and non-professional.

“The scheme is applicable to 69 countries, including 17 ECR (emigration check required) countries,” added the MEA, which said that the scheme consisted of “150 scholarships with 50 earmarked for children of Indian workers in ECR countries. One-third of these scholarships are reserved for children of Indian workers in ECR countries studying in India.”

Scholarships are offered for courses in the central universities in India offering undergraduate degrees, and institutions accredited ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
