The festival is a social tradition which takes place annually in the middle of the holy month, on the eve of the fourteenth of Ramadan after Maghrib prayer.
From tonight, children will go out in groups around their neighborhoods singing popular verses which emphasize the importance of charity.
Children wait all year for this day, and parents prepare for days before choosing new clothes and buying sweets. During Qaranqasho, children visit houses and adults provide them with sweets, money and nuts.
The festival is celebrated in various areas of the Sultanate and is the dominant name for a similar celebration titled Qaraqyan which is celebrated around the Gulf.
