Muscat: In-form opener Sami Ur Rahman struck two match-winning half-centuries as Assarain walked away with two emphatic victories over the weekend in the Premier Division T20 League action at Oman Cricket’s grassy grounds in Amerat.
With the two wins, Assarain has risen from the bottom to join the race for the T20 title with 8 points from 7 games, same as Al Turki NMC.
Passage to India is the third team in title contention with 8 points from 6 games. In its second game of the weekend on Saturday, Assarain thrashed Muscat CT by 7 wickets thanks to a stroked-filled 58 by Sami who struck 6 fours and 4 sixes in his match-winning knock. Chasing Muscat’s 122, Assarain raced to the target in only 12.4 overs, scoring 123 for 2. Gustav Burger and Naseem Khushi batted well too, scoring 32 and 19 not out respectively.
Assarain sinks Enhance Earlier on Friday, Sami Ur Rahman was declared player of the match as Assarain eased past a hapless Enhance in a 7-wicket victory. Enhance was dismissed for 135 in the 20 th over, Jahanzeb Asghar Ali top scoring with a fluent 38. Wasim Ali (31) and Sachin Kumar (27) were also impressive with the bat.
Shakeel Ahmad picked up 3 for 16 in an excellent spell of left-arm spin bowling. It took Assarain only 15.1 overs to overhaul the total, scoring 140 for 3 to win the game comfortably. Naseem Khushi chipped in with a solid 31 while Ramkumar Pandarathil remained unbeaten at 30.
