Ministry arrests 650 expats for labour violations

Muscat: A total of 650 expats were arrested for violating the Labour Law and another 618 deported in one week, Oman's Ministry of Manpower announced.

The Ministry released its weekly indicators of expat workers who were arrested, in a joint operation. The workers were arrested between March 24 and 30, 2019. Of the total 650 arrested expat violators, 284 left their jobs, 324 were freelance workers, and 42 were referred to by other bodies.

The governorates that recorded the highest number of arrests were Muscat with 200 and Nothern Batinah governorate with 248. During the same week, 618 illegal labourers were deported.
