Pakistan senator appoints Oman ambassador’s advisor

Muscat: Dr. Shiyam Kumar was appointed as the 'Advisor to Ambassador of Pakistan for Interfaith Harmony & National Integration’ in Oman on Wednesday.

Dr. Kumar received his certificate of appointment at a gathering hosted by Pakistan’s ambassador to Oman, Ali Javed.
The certificate was given to Dr. Kumar by Senator Ashok Kumar, his Pakistani counterpart, along with Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed, and Oman Council’s Majid Al Rouahi and Mahfoodh Al Wahaibi.

Senator Ashok Kumar, lauding the initiative as a true reflection of the depth and diversity of Pakistani society, said: “Services and contributions of the 1500 Pakistanis practicing Hindu faith in Oman stands acknowledged. I call upon Dr. Shiyam to continue promoting interfaith harmony and consolidating national integration, with greater zeal and zest, and furthering the historical bonds of friendship between both nations”.

The event was attended by prominent Pakistani community leaders residing across Oman, including Pakistani Hindus, Baloch and Pashtun-Baloch communities. Pakistanis Christians were not present at the event because of their observance of the ongoing month of fasting.

There are 272,000 Pakistanis currently residing in Oman, that account for a third in the Gulf and sixth worldwide. Previously, one such title was bestowed upon the consensus nominee from 3,000 Pakistanis Christians residing across Oman i.e., Reverend Zeresh Daniel on January 30, 2019 by the visiting Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
