​Consumer watchdog conducted over 53,000 inspections in Muscat last year

Muscat: Inspectors from the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) conducted more than 53,000 inspection visits at shops and commercial centres in Muscat during 2018 to ensure consumer health and safety.

According to the annual report of the Directorate General of Consumer Services and Market Control at the General Authority of Consumer Protection, employees of the Authority carried out 53,111 inspection visits during 2018 at shops and commercial centres which fall under the responsibility of the office, compared to 4,293 visits during 2017.

The PACP said in a statement: "The visits include shops and commercial centres such as barber shops and beauty salons, aluminium workshops, blacksmithing and carpentry, restaurants, cafes, car repair workshops and other sectors supervised by them, to ensure that no goods or products violate the specifications and standards or are expired and could affect consumer health and safety."
