Bangladesh school students mark 48th Victory Day

Muscat: Bangladesh School Muscat (BSM) celebrated the glorious 48th Victory Day of Bangladesh in a befitting manner. On this magnificent occasion, a cultural extravaganza was organised in the school premises.
Expats, living in different parts of the Sultanate, gathered at BSM to celebrate the Victory Day. The spontaneous presence of the community leaders and parents, and the eye-catching performances of the students made the celebration a huge success.
Md. Golam Sarwar, Ambassador of Bangladesh, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He was accompanied by the Guest of Honour, Taslima Sarwar. Dignitaries from different government offices of the Sultanate and prominent expatriates from the Bangladesh community also attended the celebration.
Sarwar gave away the awards to the students of BSM for their brilliant performances in different examinations and extracurricular activities. He also handed over the Academic Excellence Award, comprising medals and certificates to the students, provided by the Edexcel Pearson Authority for their outstanding performance in the latest examination session. The “Ambassador’s Excellence Awards” and the “Outstanding Academic Excellence Awards” were also given to the distinguished students.
“On this glorious occasion, I offer my heartfelt gratitude to the visionary and unparalleled leader, His Majesty the Sultan, for all his kindness and support to us. I pay homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Skeikh Mujibur Rahman, who gave us independence, made us proud and gave us a separate identity in the world. I pray to the Almighty Allah for eternal peace of the martyred who sacrificed their lives to give us freedom in 1971,” said the ambassador.
The Chairman of the Ad hoc committee, Bangladesh Schools in the Sultanate, Engineer Md. Shamsul Alam, supervised the entire programme. He spoke on the occasion, venerating all the freedom fighters. He paid homage to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his kindness towards Bangladesh. He thanked all the dignitaries for gracing the occasion. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders of the school for their kind-hearted support.
Members of the Ad hoc Committee, Engineer Mohammed Ashrafur Rahman, Md. Anwar Hossain, Engineer Md. Jubair Ali, Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Karim Shamim and Mohammed Nasir Uddin participated in the celebration with great enthusiasm.
While addressing the audience, Farzana Karim, Principal of BSM, recalled the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs in the freedom struggle and exhorted students to pay homage to the heroes of Bangladesh. She sketched in brief the achievements of the school in recent years. She thanked all the participants, the staff and the audience for making the celebration a huge success.
The enthused audience enjoyed the colourful cultural programme. The rich culture and heritage of Bangladesh were glorified in immortal poems recited by the students. Group dances choreographed to the tunes of patriotic songs received applause from the jubilant crowd. A drama and a fashion show added extra colour to the celebration.
