Muscat: Non-resident Indians who live in Oman and other parts of the world, can now register to vote in elections taking place in India.
NRIs who are interested in casting their vote can register as NRI voters on the home page of the Indian Election Commission’s website, where they will be redirected to a form, where they can enter all their details.
Form 6A that is available in three languages – English, Hindi and Malayalam – requires voters to fill in several details, including the state and district they are from, names of their relatives, birth details, as well as their place of residence in India, as mentioned on their passport.
Passport details are also mandatory while filling this form, as well as details regarding the NRI’s country of residence. Voters also have to explain why they are away from India at the time of voting, and need to share ID proof in the form of a photograph and passport copy.
NRIs who register on the website are also required to sign a declaration, which states that they are Indian citizens who reside overseas.
