State Council, Shura Council hold discussion on draft laws

Muscat: The State Council and the Shura Council held their first meeting of the year to discuss the mechanism of agreeing over the draft laws.
The first joint meeting of 2019 between the two councils was held yesterday at the joint meeting hall at Majlis Oman.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoud Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, and Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of the Shura Council.
The meeting comes within the framework of efforts towards joint cooperation between the two councils to enhance communication practices. During the meeting, the two councils discussed the mechanism of agreeing over opposed articles in urgent draft laws.
According to the Article 58 of the draft laws, “If the two councils disagree on the draft law, they shall hold a joint meeting to discuss the differences between the two councils, and then vote on the draft law during the same meeting.”
The provisions of the draft law submitted by Majlis Oman were also discussed at the meeting and the Joint Committee on External Posts was also reviewed.
