Oman’s Manpower Ministry issues clarification about factory closure

Muscat: The Salan Foodstuff Factory in Sohar will be closed by the end of January, 2019, the Ministry of Manpower has said.
Officials at the Ministry revealed that this was being done due to financial losses that the factory suffered.
Expat workforce at the factory will be deported, while Omani citizens will be provided with alternative employment opportunities, officials said.
In a statement online the Ministry said, “The closure of the factory will result in the deportation of expat labour force, while the national workforce will be provided with offer alternative employment opportunities.”
Officials added, “A meeting was held at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Manpower in North Batinah governorate, which included the specialists of the Directorate, the factory management, the General Federation for Trade Unions (GFTU) and representatives of the workers' union of the factory [to discuss the closing of the factory due to financial reasons].”
