Muscat: Indians around the world were joined by members of the international community in paying tribute to the heroes and victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on the 10th anniversary of the tragic incident.
The Maharashtra State Government tweeted, "We salute our real [Heroes], who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation", alongside an image of the men who died defending Mumbai that day.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, saying, "Tributes to those who lost their lives in the gruesome 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Our solidarity with the bereaved families. A grateful nation bows to our brave police and security forces who valiantly fought the terrorists during the Mumbai attacks".
Mumbai Police Commissioner Subodh Jaiswal added, "I offer my heartfelt tribute to the ones who put Mumbai first, till the very end".
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also tweeted his condolences, adding, "After the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Mumbai's security was given top priority. Today, the entire Mumbai CCTV is in strict control. Every country has a determination to further strengthen the fight against terrorism".
Internationally, diplomats around the world paid tribute to Mumbai in a show of global solidarity.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement, "On behalf of the Government of the United States of America and all Americans, I express my solidarity with the people of India and the city of Mumbai on the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terrorist attack.
"We stand with the families and friends of the victims, whose loved ones were lost in this act of barbarism, including six American citizens," he added.
On November 26, 2008, 10 Pakistani terrorists arrived by sea and opened fire indiscriminately at people, killing 166, including 18 security personnel, and injuring several others. The attack also caused massive property damage.
