Dar Al Atta’a issues call for charity art submission

Muscat: Dar Al Atta’a’s “Let’s Read Programme” has issued an open call to artists for submissions to an upcoming charity art exhibition.
Titled “Tastar Oman”, the exhibition requires artists to create and donate postcard-sized art that will be displayed anonymously and sold for just OMR25. All proceeds will go to providing books for Maktabati, Oman’s first mobile library.
The closing date for submissions is November 30, 2018.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Jane Jaffer, Chairperson of the Let’s Read Campaign, said, “The Let’s Read team is hoping for a good response from professional and amateur artists to create and donate a postcard-sized piece of artwork for the fundraising of the Tastar Oman art exhibition.”
“All monies raised will help us provide books for Maktabati, Oman’s first mobile library. The bus visits schools and festivals across the country, giving children access to good books and an opportunity to develop a love for reading,” she added.
Tastar Oman takes inspiration from the “Incognito” exhibitions held in Ireland and the UK, which feature large group exhibitions where the identity of each artist is unknown and revealed only once the piece has been purchased.
Jaffer added, “We are asking participants to submit up to three pieces to be included in the exhibition, postcard sized (150mm x 100mm), and signed only on the back.”
“The subject and medium should be of your choosing, and submitted, unframed, in an envelope clearly marked with your name, number and email address. This can be done either at the new Let’s Read Bookshop in the Oman Avenues Mall, or by handing it over to any of the Let’s Read Programme Fund Raising committee members,” she added.
“The idea behind the concept is that art lovers here in Muscat will have the opportunity to buy a piece of art by a well known artist at an affordable price. All funds raised from the exhibition will be used to purchase children’s books for Maktabati,” Jaffer said.
