Motorsport: Oman racer claims top spot in IAME X30 series

MUSCAT: Oman-based go-karting star Shonal Kunimal from Indian School Al Ghubrah, continued his winning streak to claim top honours in the second round of the 2018-19 IAME X30 Series in the Bambino class for 5-8 years olds at Ras Al Khaima, RAK Track on October 26.
Having already secured the top spot in the first round of the IAME X30 series earlier this month, and now a podium finish in the second round, Shonal has set his focus on a hat-trick when round three of the 2018 / 2019 IAME Series UAE begins on November 23 at the same venue.
Nicholas Stura the Italian racer finished second and the Greek racer Leonidas Peruzzi finished third out of all the three time trials.
Shonal who is the overall runner-up champion of 2017-18 IAME series began the first of the three time trials with a lap time of 1:09.491 secs, followed by Arafath Sheikh with a timing of 1:12.117 secs.
In the second trial Shonal clocked 1:09.472 secs, while in the third he was times at 1:28.710 secs. Nicholas came second in the second time-trial with a timing of 1:11.892 secs. In the third and final time-trail Shonal timed 1:09.357 to help him claim a maximum 150 points. He was followed by Leonidas in a time of 1:11.287 secs.
The night before the race, Shonal suffering from a tooth infection which caused him high fever did not dampen his spirits for the race, he fought through the pain to go onto win the first place.
Shonal had earlier won the first round of the Dubai Bambino Cup powered by IAME X30 last month.
During the prize-giving ceremony Shonal thanked WMS (Al Wahaibi Motor Sports) for their support, and even his coach Sanad Al Rawahi who is former Oman's go-karting star.
Shonal’s next race will be the second round of the Dubai Bambino Cup in Dubai, UAE, on November 3, 2018.
