Muscat: "We are not intermediaries between Israel and Palestinians, but we are helping bring the two sides together," His Excellency Yousuf bin Alawi, Oman's Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs has said.
Speaking at the 14th IISS Manama Dialogue regional security summit in Bahrain, Alawi added, "If we do not reach a radical solution in Palestine, the Palestinians will never enjoy security and the entire Arab region will not settle, and terrorism will not end."
"Now is the time to think seriously to get rid of problems that do not allow the countries of the region to develop it deserves," he said, adding, "The Palestinian cause is the basis of all the problems that occurred during the last half of the last century.
"If we take the path of peace in Palestine, all the countries of the world will support us, otherwise the Palestinian people will suffer from violence.
"An independent Palestinian state is a strategic demand without which stability can never be achieved."
Commenting on the status of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Alawi said: "The Gulf Cooperation Council is not going to end and the Member States are keen on this. There are arrangements for holding the Gulf summit as usual."
The Manama Dialogue summit began yesterday and will run until October 28.
