Bioethics panel meet discusses paternity legislation

Muscat: The National Bioethics Committee met on Monday at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) under the chair of Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, Vice Chancellor of the SQU.
The meeting of the committee discussed the proposals and views of the Committee regarding the international legislation of modern paternity and maternity, such as storage of ovum and sperm and its post-mortem use to obtain children after the death of the parents or one of them.
The committee discussed the donation of gametes and fetuses and the transfer of “mitochondria” to treat some diseases.
Bioethics conference
The Committee also finalised the title of the second international conference on “Regulatory legislations on bioethics”, which will be held on February 2, 2020. It decided to publish a document on the ethical principles of scientific publishing.
The committee finalised a workshop on “Ethics of Scientific Publications”, to be held on October 21, and discussed the issue of the DNA document.
