Salalah: The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Conference concluded here on Monday with a call to identify current and future challenges for GIS and setting up a national plan to deal with them.
It also recommended implementation of modern geographic information applications in the field of basic structure.
The conference was organised at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment by the Office of the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, represented by the technical office.
It also stressed the need to support youth initiatives for investment in GIS sector and enhancement of cooperation among the departments concerned for establishment of strategic applications for GIS and in the field of crisis management.
Twenty eight working papers dealing with planning, basic structure services management and the latest development in GIS among other issues were presented.
