Two arrested on drug-related charges in Oman

Muscat: Two people were arrested on charges of possession and abuse of narcotic substances, according to a statement issued by Royal Oman Police (ROP).

An ROP spokesman said: "The Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department arrested one person with morphine for the purpose of trafficking and abuse in the wilayat of Bausher."

Similarly, another person was held for peddling and abusing drugs in the wilayat of Barka. A quantity of marijuana and the tools used for the crime, were confiscated.

The two accused have been referred to the judicial authorities, who will continue the legal proceedings.

Police have called on all citizens and residents to cooperate in combating drug abuse and to inform the police of any information that helps to identify drug smugglers and drug traffickers by calling 9999, or the toll-free number of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropics Substances Department 1444, going to the nearest police station.
