Meeting discusses preparations for Opex 2018 in Kenya

Muscat: In order to highlight the preparation updates for the upcoming Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX 2018) which will take place from October 30 to November 2, 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya, the Organising Committee of Omani Products Exhibition (Opex) hosted a coordination meeting with representatives of Omani companies and factories recently at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). The meeting has also briefed the Omani companies on China International Import Expo 2018, which will be held next November in Shanghai, China.
Ayman Al Hasani, Chairman of the Opex Organising Committee, explained that the ninth edition of Opex exhibition will be held in Kenya based on the objectives raised by the Omani companies and factories which participated in the previous editions. “The majority of the companies nominated Kenya to be the destination of the exhibition derived from the fact that they would like to enter their products to the African markets and the great historical relations between the Sultanate and Kenya,” Al Hasani pointed out.
“The population in Kenya alone has exceeded 50 million. Kenya and its neighbouring markets enjoy promising markets like Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Somalia Additionally, Kenya has witnessed great development in terms of infrastructure and social life. Significant opportunities will be offered to the Omani companies to boost the presence of their products in the Kenyan market and its neighbouring markets alike. It should be noted that the Opex Organising Committee has visited Nairobi in Kenya and held a series of meetings and field visits in preparation of the upcoming exhibition,” he added.
The committee noted that Kenya mainly imports machinery and transportation equipment, petroleum products, motor vehicles, iron and steel, resins and plastics. Organised by a committee formed by Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa), Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE),and Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), the Omani Products Exhibition in Kenya aims at exploring new markets to promote Omani products and boost bilateral relations with Kenya.
The companies were also briefed on China International Import Expo 2018, which will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai next November. The exhibition will feature an open international cooperation platform built by China for presenting national development achievements to other countries, as well as feature an international public product provided by China for all the countries in the world discussing about major issues of foreign trade and world economy and improving global economic governance.
