Muscat: The world-famous NATO Jazz Orchestra flew in from Brussels to celebrate the 242nd anniversary of American Independence in Muscat.
Organised by the US Embassy in Oman at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, guests were entertained by the ensemble’s repertoire of hits, including classic songs by Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Chick Corea.
Welcoming the guests, US Ambassador Marc J. Sievers said, “It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you all to our national day celebration, to commemorate the upcoming 242nd anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America, which will take place
on July 4.”
“First of all, I would wish His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said continued good health, long life, and every success in his endeavours. It was a great honour for me to meet His Majesty twice so far this year and I am very pleased to extend the best wishes of President Trump, Secretary Pompeo, Secretary Mattis and of Oman’s many friends in the United States of America,” he added.
Paying tribute to the long-standing ties between Oman and the United States, Sievers encouraged attendees to network and learn more about one another that evening. The NATO Jazz Orchestra is the largest ensemble of the SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) International Band.
